Sandesh Government Instant Messaging Application, the WhatsApp substitute instant messaging app, has launched. The software was created by the National Informatics Center and is currently only available for download on the Apple App Store.
The app has not been listed on the Google Play Store, but interested parties can grab the app's APK file from the app's official website. There's also a mobile edition of the software.
The application supports nearly the same features and services like WhatsApp, such as end-to-end security, multimedia and file sharing, audio and video calls, and more.
Contact sharing, message styling, tagging, chat backup and more are other features.
In Hindi, Sandes means message and is based on the GIMS developed by the NIC.
Sandes is apparently the government's reaction to WhatsApp and something of a service that has been marred by the privacy protection scandal. Nevertheless, Sandes says that personal and community communications stay encrypted end-to-end and that no messages shared between members can be read by the others.
