Israel and Hamas agree to hostage swap and brief truce

Israel and Hamas have reached a deal to exchange 50 civilian hostages in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners and a four-day pause in the fighting.

The deal was brokered by Qatar and the US, and will also allow humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave.

The hostages include three Americans and several children. Israel will release up to 150 Palestinian hostages from its jails. The deal has been met with mixed reactions from the Israeli public and the international community.
